Unidentified miscreants torched several buses in Dhaka on Sunday amid BNP’s countrywide hartal.
A bus of “Shikor Paribahan” was torched at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
According to the bus driver and passengers, the bus was set on fire around 8:56am in front of the south gate of Baitul Mukarram. Later, the arsonists fled the scene.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Police said that there were passengers on the bus. Suddenly they saw flames from behind and started screaming. Following the fire incident, the other bus counters are lying empty.
Several teams of RAB and police have been deployed in the area.
Meanwhile, two buses were torched in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area since morning.
A bus of “Swadhin Paribahan” was torched near the Bosila bus stand area around 6am.
According to witnesses, three arsonists set the bus on fire. One arsonist was detained from the spot.
Belal, an officer at the Mohammadpur police station, said that the detained arsonist was not taken to the police station.
Another bus named “Paristhan Paribahan” was torched near Town Hall Bazar, Mohammadpur at 10:22am.
In Bangshal, another passenger bus named “Bihanga Paribahan’ was set on fire at 10:28am.
Meanwhile, a helper of a bus was burned to death and its driver was injured as miscreants set a bus of Wasim Paribahan on fire in Demra in the capital early Sunday.
The major opposition political party BNP has called a nationwide hartal (strike) from dawn to dusk on Sunday to protest against the police action in breaking up anti-government protests in Dhaka's Kakrail area on Saturday.
