The Jamaat-e-Islami leaders have also called for a nationwide strike on Sunday after BNP.

However, the party leaders claimed that their strike will be held separately.

Acting Secretary General of Jamaat Maulana ATM Masum announced the strike on behalf of the party on Saturday evening.

“We are announcing a program of peaceful strike from Sunday morning and evening across the country to protest the arrest senior leaders and activists and the police obstruction of the rally,” he said.

The party, after being denied permission to hold a rally at Shapla Chattar, gathered at Arambagh at 2pm on Saturday.

The party leaders and activists peacefully dispersed from Kamalapur road after the rally, encountering two police barricades at the Arambagh intersection on their route from Motijheel Shapla Chattar to Notre Dame College.

Jamaat-e-Islami acting ameer Prof Mujibur Rahman said: "There will be no election without a caretaker government. People’s right must be established, even if it costs lives"

He demanded the release of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and all political leaders and activists.
