Ashraf shows BNP the door to parliament

Update : 15 Aug 2013, 06:58 PM

Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam once again urged opposition BNP to join parliament and place “constructive proposals,” if they have any, shunning the path of movement.

“If you have any constructive proposals to make, come to parliament which is the right place for discussing such proposals. No solution will come through movements,” he said.

Ashraful was talking to reporters after having placed wreaths at the graves of family members of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who were killed on August 15, 1975.

His statement came at a time when the opposition is considering a tougher movement to press home their single-most important demand, the restoration of caretaker government which the government has thus far heatedly opposed.

Regarding BNP’s movement, Ashraful, also the minister of LGRD and Cooperatives, said the opposition would “gain nothing” by agitating in support of its demand for the caretaker system.

Responding to a query about execution of the verdict on the Bangabandhu killing case, he said: “We have to keep patience. The verdict came after decades since the incident occurred and some killers managed to flee in the meantime.”
