A local Jubo Dal leader was shot dead by criminals in Kaptan bridge area in sadar upazila early Thursday, reports UNB.
The deceased was Azad Uddin, 30, office secretary of Mandari union Jubo Dal unit and son of late Nurul Islam of Gandhyapur village in sadar upazila.
Quoting witnesses police said some miscreants called Azad by phone and lured him out of his home in the wee hours on Thursday.
Later, they shot and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police recovered the body around noon and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Altaf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Azad was wanted in several cases.
A drive is being conducted to arrest those involved in the killing, he said.
