Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went on a token hunger strike after having breakfast in the morning.
“Do you know about BNP’s hunger strike? Mirza Fakhrul told the media it was a hunger strike. But he ate breakfast in the morning from Sonargaon,” he said at a rally of Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League in Dhaka on Saturday.
The rally was organized to mark the inauguration of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Quader alleged that Fakhrul had food in the morning, and then went to attend the token hunger strike. “He will go home at night, and have food again.”
Criticising Mirza Fakhrul's statement that Sheikh Hasina is roaming around for power, Obaidul Quader said: "Sheikh Hasina does not go to anyone for power. She went abroad for the people of Bangladesh, to save the economy. ”
“Does anyone even love Mirza Fakhrul? He lies all day,” Quader later added.
He said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been shown mercy by Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “You have to obey the law. You can go abroad if you want, but the rule is, you have to go to jail first.”
Earlier in the day, many BNP activists were found eating food in roadside tea stalls and hotels in alleys when senior BNP leaders were observing a three-hour token hunger strike demanding its Chairperson Khaleda Zia's unconditional release from jail and her advanced treatment abroad.
The program began after 11am on Saturday in front of the party’s Naya Paltan central office.
Party senior leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, attended the program.
