BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that the government is plotting to imprison Dr Yunus as an act of revenge, filing a case against him.
He made these statements during the book launch event of Amanullah Aman, former VP of Ducsu, at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Thursday.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “Every day, thousands of leaders and activists gather outside the courtroom. Within one to one-and-a-half months, I might also find myself in jail. This is because anyone who urges the government to relinquish power becomes a target for government conspiracies.”
“This cannot happen in any democratic country that thousands of BNP activists have to gather daily outside the courthouse,” he added.
Fakhrul also called for the permanent release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia and the return of Tarique Rahman to the country.
