No movement if non-party government ensured: Khaleda

Update : 09 Aug 2013, 11:27 PM

Opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday reiterated her demand for a non-party interim government to oversee the next general elections.

She said if the demand was met, her party would not stage a movement after Eid, as planned earlier.

Addressing the Eid greetings programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, the former prime minister also asked the ruling party not to waste any public money for its campaigns.

Civilians, professionals, party leaders, businessmen and diplomats came to meet the opposition leader.

She said: “If the government ensures a level-playing field by forming a neutral and non-party interim government and administration, we will not go for demonstrations. [Then] the government will end its tenure and the elections will be held in due time. We will accept the public mandate.”

Later, accompanied by party leaders, she went to the mazar of late president Ziaur Rahman and placed wreaths at his grave.
