The ruling Awami League has invited Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko, sons of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to prove themselves innocent in the court after returning to the country.
During a press conference on Saturday afternoon, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of Awami League, said if they (Tarique and Koko) think they are innocent, they should come back to the country and prove their innocence in court.
The press conference was held at the party’s Dhanmonndi office in the capital.
Hanif said the key players of “1/11” facilitated Tarique’s departure from the country, using medical treatment as an excuse.
“As he is not eligible for parole, and is not coming back to Bangladesh, he is an absconder in the eyes of the law,” Hanif said.
The Awami League leader said, by staying abroad, Tarique had been conspiring against the democratic development of Bangladesh.
Hanif warned that Tarique and Koko would have no chance to escape the rule of law.
