A clash broke out between two factions of Jamalpur Madarganj upazila unit BNP, that joined the opposition's mega rally in Dhaka on Friday.
The clash took place in front of Islami Bank Central Hospital in Dhaka's Naya Paltan.
Jamalpur Madarganj upazila unit BNP Member Manjurul Islam Manju claimed that four to five people were injured in the incident.
The injured were taken to a hospital, where they received treatment.
Manjurul Islam Manju said: "We were attacked by upazila BNP Convener Babul Khan's followers. Some 15 to 20 people came and suddenly attacked us with sticks. Four to five of our workers were injured in the attack.”
He claimed that the attack was carried out due to some previous issues between the factions.
A police officer at the spot said two factions of BNP clashed during the mega rally. Some of them have taken primary treatment at a nearby hospital.
Thousands of leaders and activists of the BNP have gathered in front of the party's Naya Paltan central office for its grand rally to press home its demand for a non-partisan government during the general election.
The rally, presided over by BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, started just after 2pm on Friday and will be addressed, among others, by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
