Mohammad Jahangir Alam, former mayor of the Gazipur City Corporation and former general secretary of Gazipur metropolitan Awami League, will be joining the Awami League's peace rally in Dhaka on Wednesday with thousands of followers.
Already more than 300 vehicles have been prepared for their Dhaka visit.
He is taking part in the rally with his supporters after getting instructions from the party, confirmed Jahangir Alam late on Tuesday. “I have prepared to join the rally with my supporters after receiving instructions from top leaders of the party.”
Jahangir said he has a target to attend the rally with over 500 vehicles.
The Awami League will hold the peace rally in front of the south gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital on Wednesday afternoon. General Secretary Obaidul Quader is scheduled to speak as the chief guest.
The ruling party aims to gather over 100,000 people at the rally, with the opposition party BNP arranging a program at Naya Paltan on the same day.
Leaders of the Awami League's Dhaka North and South units have already held several meetings with thana-, ward- and union-level leaders to make the peace rally a success.
