The ousted convener of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, economist Reza Kibria, said he does not want to split BNP and empower Awami League in the process.
He was responding to his party's Member Secretary Nurul Haque Nur's allegations that he wants to create a division inside the BNP.
“I do not want to break the BNP. I have no interest. Awami League will gain more power if BNP is divided. I do not want any cooperation with the Awami League,” he said in a Facebook Live on Tuesday.
Reza Kibria said: "I want the BNP to be strong, and lead the anti-government movements.”
Regarding financial support to the party, he said: "I have given money to the team as much as possible. I don't get crores of taka from Israeli intelligence agencies. For that reason, I can't spend so much money.”
He added that he is willing to take part in all kinds of anti-government movements and meetings.
“I attend and speak against the government in BNP and AB Party's meetings. I also spoke at Islami Andolan Bangladesh's meeting. No one talks about those,” Reza Kibria complained.
While talking about Gono Odhikar Parishad's recent crisis, Kibria said he cannot leave the party in Nurul Haque Nur's hands.
"The party is an important initiative for the youth society. It cannot be left in the hands of Nurul Haque Nur. Because he sold the spirit of the party. He became rich by doing business using the party.”
Accusing Nur of being greedy and lacking transparency, Reza Kibria said: “He has repeatedly proved his greed for money. We think this party will not be able to reach anywhere if Nur is there.”
Kibria said he never wants to work with an Israeli intelligence agency. “I am also not here to compromise with foreign brokers. I am determined to keep Gono Odhikar Parishad engaged in the welfare of the country and its people by protecting them from the influence of all foreign intelligence agencies. The financial transactions of the party will be brought under transparency and accountability.”
Later, while talking about Nur's meetings with Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, Kibria said: “When I asked about his association with Mossad, Nur did not answer anything clearly. We got to know about one meeting. Nothing was done to him when he came back to the country. It raised our doubts.
“Where BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury is still in jail for taking pictures with Israeli influential leader Mendi N Safadi, Nur was not even asked about the meetings. Who is he working for offering such protection?” he added.
In response to Nur's complaint against him, Kibria said: "It is essential that we address the matter. There is an individual who has been excessively vocal, spreading falsehoods. It is imperative to counter their baseless claims.
"My father gave his life for the country. Many people know this. I left a great job to work for people. The details of my salary can be found in the Election Commission statement. Nur's complaint about my involvement with the Jatiya Insaf Kayem Committee, receiving a salary of Tk3 lakh, is ridiculous. I have dedicated 39 years of my life towards earning my reputation.”
Five-point recommendation
Gono Odhikar Parishad (Reza Kibria) Office Sub-Committee Co-Coordinator Shahabuddin Shubo said that Reza Kibria has published a five-point recommendation for the reorganization of the party.
The recommendations entail providing complete support to the Gono Odhikar Parishad in executing all party activities, prioritizing the party's structure over individual interests, establishing a supreme council within a month, ensuring systematic processes within the council, and extending maximum cooperation to the investigation committee responsible for resolving the party's crisis.
What happened in Gono Odhikar Parishad?
Earlier, on June 20, Dr Reza Kibria was ousted from Gono Odhikar Parishad due to his conflict with Member Secretary Nurul Haque Nur.
After being removed from the post of convener, Reza Kibria nominated Hasan Al Mamun (Md Al Mamun) as acting member secretary, ousting Nurul Haque Nur from his post.
On June 22, Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef SY Ramadan said that Nurul Haque Nur, member secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, had three meetings with Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.
The ambassador made the claim while speaking to media at the Palestinian Embassy in Dhaka.
"Our intelligence sources got photos of Nur meeting Israelis in Qatar, Dubai and India," Ramadan said.
