Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has accused BNP of using Transparency International (TI) for running false propaganda against the country's peacekeeping forces.
“BNP is conducting propaganda to make Bangladesh peacekeepers, who are maintaining peace in different countries with reputation, questionable. And it has been doing this using Transparency International ,” he said.
The Awami League leader made this remark in a press briefing at the party President Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka on Monday.
"Opposition parties, led by the BNP, are afraid of losing the upcoming national elections. Therefore, they are trying to create obstacles and raise doubts about the parliamentary polls. Initially, they lodged complaints with foreign entities, then hired lobbyists in the US and EU, and now their false narratives mirror the latest claims propagated by Transparency International," Quader said.
Acknowledging the challenging nature of the upcoming national elections, Obaidul Quader highlighted that the electoral climate had intensified political polarization and counter-opinion is being exhibited over the polls.
"The Awami League desires a peaceful election, but a faction, led by BNP, seeks to undermine it. They are conspiring to harness foreign influence to achieve their ends," added the minister.
Quader urged party's top leaders to maintain a visible presence on the streets up until the next election.
“The next election will be a significant challenge. We must combat the chaos to ensure no one can hinder the election,” he said.
The Awami League general secretary further said that the party's 74th founding anniversary, scheduled for June 23, would be marked with a simple, spontaneous, and multi-faceted celebration.
