BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the party or its leaders and activists do not want to take anyone's life or hurt anyone in any way.
His statement came on Tuesday in Narayanganj before a march organized by the local unit of the BNP, following an uproar over Rajshahi BNP Convener Abu Sayeed Chand's threat of sending Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina “to the grave.”
"We do not want to take anyone's life or hurt anyone. We want Sheikh Hasina's regime to end. Let there be an election under a neutral government; those who get the people's votes will form a government. We want to participate in an election under a caretaker government. The prime minister is afraid of a fair election under a neutral government. They do not allow neutral elections because they are afraid of losing power."
Referring to the BNP's non-violent protests, Rizvi said: "They had the police launch an attack on us. We have no weapons. We move with bare hands. We are brave, we are heroes."
The BNP leader said: "Today, everyone should be united. Blood is flowing from your brother's wound. Will you not take action to stop this blood flow? Today, Narayanganj is known as the city of struggle where a lot of injustice happens. Who is staging a protest against this injustice? The BNP. There would have been more injustice if this protest had not held. Your brother is dying after getting shot by the police. Shawon is dead. What did he steal from you? The police shot him dead in cold blood."
