Hamidul Alam, superintendent of police (SP) of Joypurhat, said police arrested the Jamaat-Shibir activists from Khanjanpur-Paharpur Road in the morning during picketing in support of the hartal.
The charges brought against them were that they carried out subversive activities and caused suffering to people, added the SP.
In Comilla, police arrested eight Shibir men while picketing on the city’s Laksam Road.
Officer-in-charge of Comilla Kotwali Police Station Muhiuddin Mahmud said a group of Shibir activists tried to block the Laksam Road in front of KasemulUlum Madrasah in the morning.
They also blasted at least 10 crude bombs at that time.
The activists tried to flee the scene as police fired 21 rounds of rubber bullet to disperse them.
Later police arrested eight Shibir men, including its Comilla city unit General Secretary Shah Alam from the area.
Meanwhile, police arrested Daudkandi upazila unit Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Mawlana Kawser Ahmed from his Satpara village residence when he along with his associates was preparing to bring out a sudden procession in the morning.
