A mob beat to death two activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student front of Jamaat-e-Islami, taking them for robbers while picketing at Halsa village in Mirpur upazila during hartal hours early Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Mukit Tarun, 22, HSC second year student of Kushtia Government College and son of Shafiul Alam of Bamangari village, and Sabuj Ahmed, 18, class X student of Halsa High School and son of Khabiruddin of Halsa village of the upazila.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sohel Reza of Kushtia said locals beat up three Shibir activists– Mukit, Sabuj and Saddam Hossain Farid–suspecting them to be robbers when they were blocking the Halsa Ananda Nagar Road by placing logs and bricks at about 4am, leaving them critically injured.
The three were rushed to Kushtia Medical College Hospital where Mukit and Sabuj succumbed to their injuries.
