Two Chhatra League activists sustained bullet wounds in a clash between two groups of the student wing of the ruling Awami League in the Bansbari Colony area of Mymensingh city on Friday night.
The injured, Joy, 20, and Asfun, 21, are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of Kotwali model police station, said there was a meeting of the local councillor along with other respected people of the area at Colony Bazar to resolve a conflict between Chhatra League leader Shraban and Sadman's groups.
At one stage of the discussion, a fight broke out between the two groups. Both groups blasted crude bombs and exchanged fire.
Joy and Asfun were shot at the time, said the OC.
Rescued by locals, they were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital first. Later they were sent to DMCH from there.
After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police were deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward situation.
Councillor Delwar Hossain said that there was a long-standing conflict between Shraban, the convenor of the local ward unit of Chhatra League, and Sadman, a local Chhatra League activist, over establishing dominance in the area.
The groups locked into the clash during the meeting held to resolve their dispute, he added.
