BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed yesterday asked the government to accept the demand of holding the next general election under a non-partisan interim government, showing respect to the city corporation polls results.
“If the government moves forward through the path of confrontation and leave the path of compromise, it will disappear from the country within a few months. If they [AL] want to stay in the mainstream politics, then the election should be held under a non-partisan interim government,” he said.
Addressing a discussion at the capital’s National Press Club, Moudud said: “I know the ‘extremists’ inside the government will misguide the prime minister. Still then I want to urge the government to think regarding the
strategy in facing the crisis and take the decision considering people’s aspirations.”
About the five city corporation polls results, Moudud said people expressed their decision in favour of the demand for a non-partisan interim government.
Moudud also urged the government to hold a dialogue to finalise the formation of the non-partisan interim government. He said: “The government still has time its hand. Hold
a dialogue and we will extend our support.”
Issuing a note of warning, Moudud said if the government does not seem to care about the opposition’s demand, tougher movements will be waged under the leadership of Khaleda Zia to compel the government to realise the demand.
