Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad Friday urged all political parties to work together for the continuation of the country’s democratic trend.
Addressing an iftar party in a city hotel, the former president also called upon the political parties to take part in the next national elections to facilitate a smooth handover of power.
Ershad termed the iftar session organised by his party a “pleasant get together” as, according to him, members of all political parties joined the event.
“How nice it would have been if every party had done the same in politics!” he remarked.
“It is important to ensure peaceful transition of power through elections for strengthening the country’s democracy,” Ershad commented.
Talking to journalists after joining the programme, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said: “All political parties should take Ershad’s speech into consideration.”
Replying to a query BNP Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed said: “Mistrust of the government has multiplied over the last four years. The government will have to create a favourable environment as well as express its willingness to arrange an effective dialogue.”
