Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said BNP is plotting to foil the polls as they are in doubt over securing even 30 seats in the next parliament elections.
The road transport and bridges minister made the remark in a meeting with the president and general secretary of Meherpur, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Jhenaidah and Jessore district Awami League and the party members, district council chairmen, to mark the historic Mujibnagar day on April 17 at the central office of Awami league at Bangabandhu Avenue.
He said that BNP will not directly participate in the upcoming city corporation elections, it will join wearing a veil. “This is another hypocrisy of their politics.”
“A section in Bangladesh politics led by BNP, they never observe the days related to independence and liberation war. April 17 is one of them. You will see that BNP organizing any program on this day. They do not observe March 7. June 7 is important in the liberation war movement towards independence. They do not even observe this day,” added Awami League general secretary.
Awami League joint General Secretary Mahubul Alam Hanif, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Huq, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, and lawmakers of the concerned districts were present in the meeting.
During the meeting Awami league leaders said they will organize a detailed program to mark the historic April 17, which was observed in a small scale last few years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
