BNP condemns attack on quota protesters’ demonstration

Update : 12 Jul 2013, 04:48 AM

Main opposition BNP Thursday condemned the police action and what they termed “attacks” by Chhatra League activists on the demonstration of unsuccessful civil service aspirants.

The demonstrators have been demanding scrapping of quota provision from all government recruitments since Wednesday.

“The ruling Awami League has become imbalanced seeing the outcome of its misdeeds and attacked the students without considering their logical demands. It is a shame not only for the government but for the whole nation,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting secretary general of the party, said in a statement undersigned by Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

“People of the country became surprised seeing the inhuman attack on the meritorious students who are the future leader of the country,” he said.

Fakhrul also said, “We will not term the incident as reckless but refer to it as a longstanding conspiracy to turn the state and its administration meritless.”

He demanded the exemplary punishment for those who attacked the demonstrators; he also urged the government to consider the students’ logical demand.
