‘Tick’ or ‘cross’ to replace seal in ballots

Update : 11 Jul 2013, 03:20 AM

Election Commission (EC) has decided to use ‘tick’ or ‘cross’ marks in ballot papers instead of seal in the upcoming local body elections.

“As a lot of votes are spoilt for using seals, we have decided to use tick or cross marks in the ballot papers to solve the problem,” Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad told reporters after an EC meeting yesterday.

When asked if the EC would do the same in the next parliamentary elections, the CEC said the EC decided to use this method in the local body elections such as Municipality and Union Parishad polls.

As for the next parliamentary election he said: “It is still far away.”

Before the next general elections, Rakibuddin said, the EC would publish the updated voter’s list.

The EC is taking preparation for the 10th parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in between October 2013 and January 2014, he said.
