Update : 16 Feb 2023, 07:11 PM

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a petition of BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, pleading to review the apex court's refusal to quash his graft case proceedings.

“A seven-member apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order, paving the way for continuing the trial proceedings at the lower court concerned,” Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) counsel senior advocate Khurshid Alam Khan said.

Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan and Sagir Hossain Leon moved the plea before the court.

Earlier on October 25, 2022, the Appellate Division dismissed a petition against a High Court order that said the graft case proceedings against Mirza Abbas will continue.

On August 16, 2007, ACC Assistant Director Md Shafiul Alam filed the case with Ramna police station for acquiring Tk5.97 crore in excess of his known income and hiding information of Tk33.48 lakh.

On November 11, 2018, the High Court rejected an appeal to suspend the trial proceeding against Mirza Abbas in this case.

The case is currently under trial at Dhaka Special Judge Court 6.
