Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina is set to visit Gopalganj's Kotalipara, her constituency, for the first time in four years.
According to party sources, she will address a rally at the Talimpur Telihati High School ground in Sadullapur union of Kotalipara upazila on February 25.
Gazi Hafizur Rahman Liku, assistant private secretary (APS)-2 to the prime minister, along with members of law enforcement agencies and senior leaders of the Awami League, visited the venue on Wednesday in preparation for the rally.
Kotalipara Chairman Bimal Krishna Biswas said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last addressed an election rally in the upazila on December 12, 2018. After that she could not come to the area due to the coronavirus pandemic, he added.
“However, she constantly kept in touch with the political leaders here and was informed about the state of the people of Kotalipara,” he said.
Kotalipara Awami League General Secretary Aynal Hossain Sheikh said party leaders are really enthusiastic about the prime minister's visit.
“We have already taken various steps to make this rally a success,” he said.
Agailjhara Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdur Roich Serniabath said: “Kotalipara, our neighbouring upazila, is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's constituency. This upazila is known as an impregnable base of the Awami League.
“A huge crowd is expected to attend her rally. We and thousands of leaders and activists from Agailjhara upazila will join the gathering.”
