Losing mayoral candidate Azmat Ullah Khan yesterday congratulated MA Mannan as the first-elected mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC), reports BSS.
In an immediate reaction after losing the ballot, Azmat also said the maiden GCC elections were held peacefully and smoothly.
“The elections were held peacefully, in a free and fair manner under the Awami League government,” Azmat said.
Opposition BNP-backed Mannan won the polls bagging 365,444 votes, while Awami League-backed Azmat got 258,867 votes.
The newly-elected mayor assured Gazipur residents of turning the city into a modern one. Mannan also sought all out cooperation from Azmat to carry out his development plans.
