Police arrested nine leaders and activists of Jamaat–e–Islami during a secret meeting in Bogra's Shibganj upazila.
They were held from the house of the late Jamaat leader of Korotkola village of Raynagar union of the upazila on Friday.
They are Abdul Halim, 48, Mosharf Hossain, 45, Ashar Uddin. 44, Momtaz Uddin, 67, Alal Uddin, 53, Tofazzal Hossain, 59, Sultan Mahmud, 53, Belal Uddin, 58, and Shah Alam 55.
A case was filed against them the same night. The arrestees were sent to jail through court on Saturday, Shibganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monjurul Alam said.
Five cocktails, report books, extortion receipts, and some steel rods were recovered from their possession, the OC added.
The officer said that the Jamaat members called the meetings to carry out anti-government activities and spread fear among the public.
