Update : 24 Jan 2023, 06:13 PM

The central and district Awami League leaders are in favour of lawyer Abdus Sattar in the Brahmanbaria-2 (Ashuganj and Sarail) by-election.

Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, who left the opposition BNP and became an independent candidate, formally took the stage at Syed Sirajul Islam Auditorium in Sarail upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

At the time, he was introduced by Ahmed Hossain, organizing secretary of the central Awami League.

Earlier, Awami League leaders and activists brought Sattar to the hall with a procession.

Advocate Nazmul Hossain, president of Sarail upazila Awami League, presided over the event organized under the banner of Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan's supporter group.

However, no one from the BNP attended the event.

On December 10, five MPs from the BNP resigned from parliament as part of their ongoing anti-government movement. Sattar left the party the next day.

Later, the Election Commission announced February 1 to hold polls for the vacant seats.
