Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has emphasised brining discipline to the party.
“We often verbally claim to be soldiers of Bangabandhu, but we later forget it after getting a post and coming to the stage,” Quader, who is also road transport and bridges minister, said at a rally arranged by the party's Dhaka district unit on Tuesday.
“The Awami League must be organized. There is no compromising with those who indulge in extortion; there will be an uncompromising fight against those who are involved in negative activities.”
“We need smart activists to build a smart Bangladesh,” the Awami League leader said.
“There was no need for leaders who cherish the ideals of the Awami League verbally but do not nurture it in their hearts,” he added.
Criticizing the BNP, Quader said: “BNP leaders said they would oust the government from power by creating a tsunami, but right now the BNP's senior leaders are sick after listening to what the US assistant secretary of state has to say. The BNP's illness originated from frustration.”
“We know where funding for the BNP's movement comes from. We have information about those providing money to overthrow Sheikh Hasina's government,” Quader added.
Dhaka District Awami League President Benzir Ahmed presided over the rally.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Awami League Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, among others, spoke at the event.
