Nurul Haque Nur's Gono Odhikar Parishad, one of the factions of the seven-party alliance Ganatantra Mancha, has decided not to join the protest program that was arranged aligning with BNP's countrywide demonstration.
Rashed Khan, joint convener of Gono Odhikar Parishad, confirmed that his party is not participating in the program.
“On January 11, Nurul Haque Nur was supposed to come to the country and directly join the rally at the press club. The leaders of Ganatantra Mancha knew about this. Yet they ended the program hurriedly. As a result, Nur could not attend the program. This angered the leaders of the parishad. Therefore, with the consent of all the leaders of the party, we are not joining today's program,” he said.
“However, this does not mean that Gono Odhikar Parishad will not participate in the simultaneous movement of BNP,” he said.
“We still have a good relationship with BNP and will join the protest program,” he added.
The pre-scheduled demonstration program of Ganatantra Mancha got delayed on Monday as the top leaders of the alliance did not appear on time.
The protest program was scheduled to start at 11:30am in front of the National Press Club, but the top leaders of the alliance did not appear till the writing of this report.
The leaders and activists of Ganatantra Mancha said the top leaders are bringing processions from different corners of the capital and they got stuck in traffic.
