New Awami League committees stress unity to face challenges

The party leaders urged to solve the conflicts at the grassroots levels as soon as possible to avoid great loss

Update : 15 Jan 2023, 01:03 AM

Awami League Advisory Council members and National Committee leaders have emphasized uniting the party as the opposition party's movement, continued pressure from foreign countries, and conspiracies may take place ahead of the upcoming national parliament elections.

The leaders exchanged their views in the joint meeting of the party's newly-elected Central Executive Committee, Advisory Council and National Committee on Saturday.

New leadership has emerged from the grassroots level through the conferences but the conflict has not been resolved. In some places, it has even multiplied, they said.

The party might face great loss if these conflicts still exist during the election period, they warned.

The senior leaders urged that the conflicts should be identified and solved as soon as possible.

Chaired by party President Sheikh Hasina, almost all the leaders were present in the meeting at Ganabhaban.

Shahabuddin Chuppu, Rashidul Alam, Muhammad Zamir, Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, Bazlur Rashid, Khalilur Rahman Mandal, Sultana Shafi, Sadeka Halim, Zobeda Khatun Parul and 20 members of the Advisory Council and National Committee spoke in the joint meeting.

Shahabuddin Chuppu said: “BNP calls us thieves. I was in Anti Corruption Commission. I saw their corruption. BNP leaders took bribes from mobile company Siemens.”

National Committee member Chandan Sheel, who had lost his legs during the BNP regime, spoke at the meeting.

“Awami League could never be defeated in the elections. The way the leader has developed Bangladesh, people are happy,” he said.

“When BNP came to power in 2001, they destroyed the development done by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her tenure from 1996-2001. The BNP leaders were engaged in killing and arson attacks which scarred the country's development,” said Chandan Sheel.

“People should be alert of BNP-Jamaat's conspiracy,” he added.

Sheikh Hasina: Resolve conflicts

Meanwhile, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina instructed the National Committee and Advisory Council to work in coordination with the central and district level to solve any problems.

Besides, the party president has ordered the central leaders to play their role in solving the problems of their respective districts.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also said to promote the development works taken by her government across the country.

At the end of the meeting, Golam Maula Nakshbandi, a member of the party's Advisory Council, conducted a dua.

Before this, Ataur Rahman, a member of the Advisory Council and a theater personality, recited a poem written on Bangabandhu and humanism.
