Main opposition BNP on Friday demanded that the results of the Gazipur City Corporation election, being held today, be declared the same day after counting the votes.
The move comes to protest against the remark of Returning Officer of Gazipur Matiar Rahman who on Thursday said the results would not be announced on the day of the election but the day after.
The joint secretary general of the BNP, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, submitted the allegation to the personal secretary of Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad at the EC secretariat. The commissioners, including the CEC, were absent on Friday.
Earlier, BNP demanded army deployment in the GCC election for it to be held in a free and fair manner.
