Update : 11 Jan 2023, 09:40 PM

Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League and its affiliates on Wednesday gathered at different points in Dhaka during a sit-in program of the BNP and like-minded opposition parties.

Leaders in every ward of the city took to the streets to face any untoward incident.

Leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League, Swachhasebak League, Krishak League, Mahila Awami League, Mohila Jubo League and other affiliated organizations gathered before the central office of the Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue since early morning.

However, several leaders of the party said they were gathering at different points to mark Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day.

A huge traffic congestion was caused by the presence of the crowds. Most commuters crossed the area on foot as vehicles were stuck due to the program.

On the other hand, Chhatra League leaders and activists congregated at the Shahbagh intersection since the morning.

Apart from the day-long program at Bangabandhu Avenue, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League arranged a discussion at 11:30am on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Homecoming Day.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, Obaidul Quader, was present on the occasion as chief guest.

Quader, in his remarks, said the ruling party was not countering anyone's program.

He said that the BNP's December 10 rally had failed and its program on Wednesday would add to the list of its failures.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League held a rally at Mirpur Shah Ali Eidgah ground in the afternoon.
