69 people sued over BNP-Chhatra League clash in Pirojpur

A total of 11 people have been arrested in this connection

At least 69 people, including Pirojpur district unit of BNP President Prof Alamgir Hossain, has been sued in connection with the Saturday's clash between BNP and Chhatra League in Pirojpur.

Abu Naim, joint general secretary of Pirojpur district unit Chhatra League, filed the case with  Pirojpur Sadar police station under the Explosives Act on Sunday.

Pirojpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AJM Masuduzzaman confirmed the matter.

According to BNP sources, a clash took place when the party leaders and activists had gathered in front of the Collectorate School in front of the old jail on Saturday. 

BNP leader Prof Alamgir Hossain claimed that they were carrying out the program peacefully but Chhatra League leaders and workers attacked them for no reason. 

Thirty leaders and workers of Chhatra Dal were injured in this attack, he said. 

However, according to Iftekhar Mahmud Sajal, general secretary of Pirojpur district unit of Chhatra League, eight leaders and activists of the district Chhatra League were injured in the attack of the Chhatra Dal.

Pirojpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AJM Masuduzzaman said that the clash started when BNP leaders and activists threw brickbats at the Chhatra League procession.

He also said that after receiving the information, police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

On the day of the incident, police raided the BNP office and its surroundings and recovered 5 cocktails. A total of 11 people were arrested as well. 

“The arrested people were sent to jail through the court. Efforts are on to nab others,” he added.
