Update : 10 Dec 2022, 01:54 PM

Bus services on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route are suspended due to the BNP's mass rally on the Golapbagh playground in the capital on Saturday, with police checkposts set up in different locations.

No bus has left for Dhaka since the morning.

Even after waiting for a long time at the intersection, no public transport was seen on the road.

General people were trying to reach the destination on foot and through other means.

Additional policemen were deployed in Narayanganj city.

The police conducted searches by setting up checkposts on roads and important intersections.

From the morning, buses, cars, pickups and auto-rickshaws from Narayanganj to Dhaka were stopped at the Signboard intersection.

The police were interrogating and searching people.

Besides, checkposts were set up at various places including Bhulta, Shimrail, Kanchpur bridge east side, Madanpur and Rupganj 300 feet road on Dhaka-Sylhet highway.

The police said that extra security has been arranged at various points including checkposts on highways and roads.

According to Kanchpur highway police, the number of passenger buses on the highway has decreased. However, goods-carrying vehicles including trucks are moving a little. The situation is normal.

Omar Farooq, traffic in-charge (TI) of Bhulta Camp of Kanchpur Highway police station, said that a checkpost has been set up in the Bhulta area of Dhaka-Sylhet highway. The number of vehicles at the checkpost is fewer than usual. If anyone is suspected, searches are being conducted; no one is being harassed unnecessarily.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Chailau Marma said that checkposts were installed at eight points.

Besides, about 900 additional police have been deployed. Out of this, 850 police are working in uniform and another 50 of DB and intelligence units. The superintendent of police along with senior police officers are on the ground.

He also said that checkposts are being installed to prevent sabotage, so that no one can carry out sabotage by using explosives.

Meanwhile, bus movement on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route was suspended due to passenger shortage, causing extreme trouble for commuters.

Many commuters were leaving for their destination by CNG-run auto-rickshaws, human-hauler, pickup vans and rickshaws, among other alternative modes of transport without getting buses.
