BNP has announced to hold protest programs in all cities and districts on Thursday in response to the clash between their activists and police at the Naya Paltan head office in Dhaka.

The decision was taken at the party's standing committee meeting held on Wednesday night.

The press release signed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that there will be protests and demonstration programs at all metropolitan and district levels across the country on Thursday.

The standing committee meeting also demanded the immediate release of their leaders and activists.

Other members of the party attended the standing committee meeting held under the chairmanship of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

On Wednesday afternoon, a man was killed and several others were injured in a clash between the police and BNP activists in front of the party's central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka.

The clash broke out at around 3pm when slogan-chanting BNP men took up position outside the party office and defied a police order to leave the place, witnesses said.

At one stage, police lobbed teargas shells and charged batons to disperse them.

BNP activists responded by pelting brick chips at police, triggering the clash.

Over 300 BNP leaders and activists were detained from Naya Paltan area after the clash, police said.

Fakhrul on Wednesday evening strongly condemned police action and alleged that the government carried out the attack deliberately to foil its Saturday's rally.
