Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami, has kept the Gazipur City Corporation area and three upazilas of the Kishoreganj district out of the purview of Wednesday’s nationwide hartal.
In a press note, issued on late Monday, the student front said the decision was made due to the Kishoreganj-4 by-elections, in addition to the elections of the newly declared Gazipur City Corporation, scheduled to be held on July 3 and July 6 respectively.
The three upazilas are Itna, Mithamoin and Astagram.
On Monday, Shibir called the countrywide dawn-to-dusk shutdown demanding the unconditional release of its president, Delwar Hossain.
