Awami League bigwigs in Sylhet to uplift local leaders, activists

The council meeting of Sylhet metropolitan unit Awami League is set to be held on Sunday

The central leaders of Awami League reached Sylhet to uplift local leaders and activists ahead of meetings to form the new district and metropolitan councils of the party.

They reached Sylhet on a flight at 9pm on Saturday, reports Bangla Tribune.

The council meeting of Sylhet metropolitan unit Awami League will be held at Kobi Nazrul Auditorium in Rikabi Bazar of the city on Sunday.

Later the council meeting for the district unit Awami League will be held on Monday at the same venue. 

Member of Parliament (MP) of Sylhet-6 constituency and former education minister Nurul Islam Nahid will be present as the chief guest at the council meetings.

Meanwhile, Joint General Secretary Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif will be present as the main speaker.

In this regard, Sylhet metropolitan Awami League General Secretary Professor Zakir Hossain said: “Awami League's district and council meeting mainly consists of party leaders and advisers. Central leaders are here to give advice and directions.”

Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdur Rahman Jamil said: “BNP wants to take away the peace of Bangladesh's people. But the countrymen will not ever let that happen.”

“We (Awami League) are ready to make the highest sacrifice to ensure the welfare of the country and its people,” he added.

The last council of Sylhet district and metropolitan was formed in 2019, after 14 years.
