A Dhaka court on Thursday placed 11 Jubo Dal leaders on a two-day remand each in a case filed over the attack on former Appellate Division Judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dev Das Chandra Adhikary passed the order after Sub-Inspector Monjurul Hasan Khan of Paltan Model Police Station produced the 11 Jubo Dal men in court, seeking a five-day remand.
Opposing the remand plea, defence counsels sought bail for the arrestees. But the court rejected the bail plea and allowed the police two days to interrogate the arrestees.
The arrestees are Md Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan, Md Harun-Ur-Rashid, Md Abu Taher, Md Jamal Hossain, Md Ariful Islsm, Motiur Rahman Nirob, Shamim Rahman, Maksudur Rahman Sumit, Md Shakhawat Hussain Khan, Md Robin Hossain and Md Sagar.
According to the case statement, the attack was carried out from a procession of the BNP in the Nayapaltan area on Wednesday afternoon, reports UNB.
The retired Supreme Court judge came under attack on his way to a TV talk show.
The incident occurred at around 4:15pm as he was passing through the Nayapaltan area near Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Motijheel) of DMP Enamul Haque Mithu.
