Expulsions announced in notice signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi

The BNP has expelled four of its leaders in Sylhet for contesting polls to different local government bodies to be held on Wednesday, violating party directives.

The party announced the expulsions in a notice signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday.

The four are Osmaninagar BNP Joint General Secretary Md Kamrul Islam, who is a chairman candidate in the polls to the upazila council, Vice President Md Goyas Mia, a vice chairman candidate, Women's Affairs Secretary Muslima Akter Chowdhury, a female vice chairman candidate, and the organizing secretary of the party's Newham (UK) unit, Mumin Khan, who is a mayor candidate in the election to Bishwanath municipality.

The party has expelled many of its members over the years for the same reason as it insists on taking part in polls only under a non-partisan government.

Recently, in May, the BNP threw out then-mayor of Comilla Monirul Haque Sakku for violating party policy by becoming a candidate in the city corporation polls.
