Bus owners threaten strike on November 4, 5 in Barisal

BNP is scheduled to hold its fourth divisional rally in Barisal on 5 November

Update : 26 Oct 2022, 10:49 PM

Barisal district bus owners group has threatened to announce a two-day strike on November 4-5 to press home their demand to stop the operation of three-wheelers and other illegal vehicles on the highways.

However, the leaders and activists of BNP alleged that this tactic decision has been taken to foil their divisional mass rally which is scheduled to be held on November 5.

Bilkis Jahan Shireen, divisional organizing secretary of BNP, said: "Haven't the bus owners seen illegal vehicles on the roads and highways before?”

Such an announcement before their mass rally is ill-motivated, she said.

She further alleged that earlier the transport strikes were called in Khulna and Mymensingh in the same manner before BNP's mass rallies.

Golam Mashreque and Kishore Kumar Dey, president and secretary general of the district bus owners group respectively, have submitted a memorandum to the office of divisional commissioner.

In their memorandum, they set November 3 as the deadline for meeting their demands.

Being asked about the decision to go on strike before the BNP rally, Kishore Kumar Dey said that they are not doing anything because of BNP rally, their demands are for a long time.

If their demand is not met, they will suspend bus service on those days, he added.

The copy of the memorandum has been sent to other concerned offices including mayor, DIG, police commissioner, Rab-8 commanding officer along with the office of deputy commissioner.
