Leaders and activists of local Awami League and its associate bodies brought out a protest rally in Khulna city on Friday ahead of BNP's mass rally scheduled to be held on Saturday.

According to the pre-announced program, they took out the demonstration to protest the anti-national conspiracy, anarchy and propaganda of BNP-Jamaat.

The rally started at Shibbari intersection at 4pm. From there, they marched towards the party office at 5pm.

The leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies including Bangladesh Chhatra League, Jubo League, Bangladesh Awami Swechasebak League joined the rally.

Khulna District Awami League President Sheikh Harunur Rashid was the chief guest at the protest.

He said: “BNP is lying in the name of political program all over the country. I want to warn them that the Awami League cannot be ousted by any conspiracy.”

Khulna unit Awami League General Secretary MDA Babul Rana said there is no connection between BNP's mass meeting and this program. They, all associate bodies, jointly held organizational activities.

He added that Awami League or its associate bodies have no intention to obstruct BNP's rally.

“All parties have the right to express their opinion in a free country. BNP wants to present their statement in front of the people. So they need that opportunity to be uninterrupted and peaceful,” said the Awami League leader.

“Law enforcers are there to see what kind of chaos they do in the name of mass rally. It is not the responsibility of Awami League or the government to see that. We want the BNP to hold the rally peacefully,” said Babul Rana.

Earlier on September 28, BNP announced to hold public rallies in 10 divisional cities in protest against the killings and filing of cases against the party leaders and activists, price hikes of fuel and daily essentials and demanding the unconditional release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The party already arranged two massive rallies in Chittagong and Mymensingh while the third one will be held in Khulna on Saturday.
