BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir termed the proposal of breaking up the Grameen Bank into pieces as “conspiracy”, after holding an exclusive meeting with Prof Yunus.
He urged the government to refrain from taking such harmful decisions.
He said the government is planning to take such a decision as it is not happy with the Nobel laureate economist. Meanwhile, he requested the government to let the bank run autonomously.
The opposition leader came up with the call while addressing a press conference after the meeting .
The hour-long meeting was held at Yunus Centre in the capital around 9am.
During the meeting, the two discussed a number of sociopolitical and economic issues of the country and the government's ‘interference’ on Grameen Bank, said a party source.
The meeting was held as the Grameen Bank Inquiry Commission is planning to submit a set of proposals to the government for restructuring the future of the microcredit organisation.
