A BNP leader on Tuesday filed an application to sue 20 named including State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder and 400-500 unnamed others over the clashes in Mirpur on September 15.
Former secretary of Dhaka Bar Association Omar Faruq Faruqi submitted the plea to the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Judge Tofazzal Hossain in the morning.
The court recorded the plaintiff’s statement and is set to give its decision later in the day, reports Bangla Tribune.
The other accused include Dhaka lawmaker Md Elias Uddin Mollah and Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Khan Nikhil.
Earlier, Pallabi police Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam filed a case against 75 BNP leaders and activists and 150 unnamed persons alleging attack on the law enforcers during the clashes.
The BNP claims that at least 100 of its activists were injured during the series of clashes with Awami League men over holding a scheduled rally.
At one stage, the police rushed to the spot and fired teargas shells to bring the situation under control. Several policemen were injured when they tried to disperse the agitators, police said.
