AL leader hacked to death in Chittagong

A local Awami League (AL) leader was hacked to death by assailants in Sitakunda upazila headquarters in Chittagong early Thursday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Kazi Mohammad Mohiuddin Sohel, 40, vice-president of Sitakunda municipality unit AL and son of late Kazi Ruhul Amin.

Samiul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sitakunda Police Station, said a gang of unidentified miscreants hacked the ruling party leader indiscriminately in Sitakunda hospital area around 1am while he was on the way home after finishing party related activities, leaving him critically injured.

Hearing Sohel’s scream, some locals came to his rescue but the attackers managed to flee by them.

He was rushed to nearby Sitakunda Hospital and he later died on the way to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in the early hours when his condition deteriorated, added the OC.

His body was kept at the CMCH morgue for autopsy.
