The BNP has taken a stance against development by getting its leaders and activists to remove nuts and bolts of the Padma Bridge’s railing, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has alleged.
Quader on Wednesday issued a statement in response to senior BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s accusation that the government had cracked down on the opposition.
Fakhrul’s statement was nothing but lies, said Quader, who is also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League.
The BNP was levelling baseless accusations against the government to cover up its own frustrations and failures, added the ruling party leader.
Moreover, the BNP had chosen to conspire against the development of the country by getting nuts and bolts of the Padma Bridge unscrewed by its activists, Quader claimed.
Police on Sunday arrested a man after a video of him removing nuts from bolts of the Padma Bridge’s railings went viral on social media.
The Criminal Investigation Department detained 30-year-old Bayezid Talha from Dhaka’s Shantinagar hours after he uploaded the video on TikTok.
