The BNP has expelled former member of parliament Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman for violating party discipline.

A press release signed by Belal Ahmed, assistant office secretary, on Sunday said that Akhtaruzzaman had been expelled from all party posts for his involvement in anti-party activities.

A former president of Kishoreganj district unit BNP, Akhtaruzzaman contested the last general election with BNP ticket from Kishoreganj 2 constituency.

He was earlier elected MP in 1991 and 1996 from the same constituency.

According to a senior leader of the party, who wished to remain anonymous, said the action was taken against him for some of his recent comments against the BNP and breaching party code of conduct.

In a television talk show, Akhtaruzzaman described the BNP as a shameless and failed party.

He also made some comments against BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, the elder son of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia who has been staying in the UK since 2008.
