The Chittagong City Corporation, instead of filing a case, registered a general diary (GD) on Wednesday night against Bangladesh Chatra League activists who attacked a mobile court while it was removing illegal billboards at the city’s GEC area.
Mainul Islam Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Khulshi police station, on Thursday said that the chief inspector of CCC’s Revenue Department, Abul Mansur, registered the GD describing the incident as “vandalising vehicles and hindering the eviction drive”.
Bhuiyan also stated that police could not take any action against the attackers, as the corporation had not filed any case in connection with the incident.
Mohammed Shamshuzzoha, secretary to the CCC, said they have registered a GD instead of filing a case as per the directive of higher authorities. He refused to say anything further.
Earlier of Wednesday, a group of BCL men of Omar Gani MEH College unit launched the attack on the mobile court, which was led by executive magistrate Najia Shireen, around 11am when it was conducting a drive against illegal billboards at GEC area. The attackers smashed four city vehicles and injured an employee, forcing the mobile court to suspend the drive. Md Wasimuddin, a student union leader at the college, claimed that some students might have carried out the attack as the court was removing billboards put up by them.
