Awami League to join president’s EC dialogue on January 17

Eight parties have boycotted the talks

The ruling Awami League has decided to accept an invitation for talks with President M Abdul Hamid on January 17 on the reconstitution of the Election Commission (EC).

Party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader issued a written statement confirming the matter on Thursday afternoon.

The dialogue will commence at 4pm at the president’s official residence Bangabhaban.

With the tenure of the current EC, led by Nurul Huda, expiring on February 14, the president started inviting registered political parties from December 2 for talks to form a new one.

Abdul Hamid has, so far, invited 32 parties for discussions. A total of 16 political parties have joined the talks while eight parties including the BNP and Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) have boycotted it.
