Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hoisted the national flag and inaugurated the 22nd national council of her party at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday morning.
Bangla TribuneGeneral Secretary Obaidul Quader meanwhile hoisted the party flag while the national anthem played in the background.
At the same time, presidents and general secretaries of the party's district units also hoisted the national and the party flags.
Afterwards, Sheikh Hasina released pigeons and balloons into the air, starting the national council proceedings.
Earlier, around 8,000 councillors and 25,000 delegates from all over the country arrived at the council venue.
It is expected that attendance will cross 100,000 including leaders of different parties and diplomats stationed in Dhaka.
It is almost certain that Sheikh Hasina will be re-elected as the party chief for the tenth consecutive term at the council. All eyes are therefore on who her deputy will be.
