PM blasts BNP for co-opting war criminals’ children in its committee

Update : 09 Aug 2016, 01:53 AM
“The trial of war criminals is still in progress... there is no other country in the world where war criminals were supported and placed in the Cabinet… BNP insulted the entire country and the martyrs of the Liberation War by forming this committee,” she said at the unveiling of a book on her mother Begum Fajilatunnesa Mujib at Ganabhaban, reported UNB. The prime minister alleged that the BNP had “cheated” the entire nation, the three million martyrs, and 200,000 women who were raped during the war by forming this new committee. She said BNP is an aimless party that wants to go to power and indulge in corruption taking anti-liberation forces and war criminals with it. “This party has no principle, ideology and philosophy at all.” She expressed her wonder and said one should go through the party’s constitution to see what is in it. “What kind of committee have they formed? It has more than 500 members… there is no rule and policy in this party.” Hasina said it was BNP Founder Ziaur Rahman who first rehabilitated war criminals by bringing them to power. “His family is doing the same.” She said Zia stopped the trial of Bangabandhu’s killers, rewarding them through posting in foreign missions. Not only that, Zia also destroyed the spirit and values of independence and distorted the country’s history of pride. As a result, she said, a generation has grown up without learning the real and true history of the Liberation War.
