V for BNP at £937

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia left for the UK for medical purposes on Saturday night. When she arrived in London on Sunday, she was received by the usual throng of BNP followers. She was picked up in a Lexus LS with a custom number plate that read “V4 BNP.” Using custom number plates is not uncommon in the UK. It is relatively easy and appeared to be cheaper than expected. The entire cost of getting a custom number plate is just £80, courtesy of the British government’s Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency.But, given this is the ride for BNP’s chairperson, the leader of the second largest political party in Bangladesh and two-time prime minister of the government, this custom number plate is now priced at £937.5. That is, if the owner is willing to sell the license plate.It is quite uplifting to see BNP make the effort to get a fancy number plate. The garish reception in London warranted the chairperson ride in style. Her farewell from Dhaka was over-the-top with the standard motorcade and BNP supporters milling about. Of course, reports did surface of severe traffic jam on Airport Road on Saturday afternoon, causing traffic jams up to Bijoy Shoroni.
